The Stripes Beneath the Surface

The ambulance is finally in the paint booth and on track to be out by next week—but not without a few surprises along the way.

We started by stripping the decals off the cab to prep for primer, and in the process uncovered something unexpected: an older set of graphics buried under the clear coat. And honestly? They’re kind of great. A clean, silver pinstripe paired with a bold light blue line stretches down the side, and it works. Like, really works. It’s got that retro sci-fi meets medical tech vibe that fits CausePlay’s identity better than I ever could’ve planned. Sometimes, what’s underneath adds more character than anything new you could slap on top.

While the cab is now primed and ready, the windshield did crack during prep, so that’ll be replaced once paint is finished. If all went smoothly today, the cab should already be painted white, with clear coat happening tomorrow. The plan is still on schedule to have everything out of paint next week, and then we move into the fun part: building out the interior and rebranding this beast from emergency vehicle to mobile maker space.

Every step of this has been a mix of setbacks and serendipity—but moments like discovering those stripes are reminders that this project has a story of its own, and I’m just helping guide it forward.

More updates soon!
